Well, it’s official. The value of solar is about to change, but you still have a chance to get grandfathered.
The ACC has voted and approved the APS Rate Review Agreement. It is now confirmed that the final solar grandfathering date is Thursday, August 31, 2017 for completed applications.
That means you have TEN DAYS to complete your solar application with APS in order to lock in your solar rates for the next 20 years. If you’ve been paying attention to the news in Arizona lately, you’ve probably heard about Arizona Public Service’s (APS) proposal to change the way that residents with solar get compensated for the energy they produce. It is now down to the final days before the July 1, 2017 “cut-off date” for grandfathering that APS proposed. Both the actual “grandfather date” and rate case still need to be voted on by the ACC.
THE GOOD NEWS: We are still awaiting a decision from the ACC, as they have not yet voted. Because they haven’t voted yet, there is potential that the date to get grand-fathered in may get bumped back to mid-July (or later).
THE OTHER GOOD NEWS: You don’t have to have your solar installed by July 1 (Thank goodness – even WE aren’t that fast!); you only have to submit your interconnection application by July 1, along with the site plans we’ll draw up for you of your future solar installation.
THE BAD NEWS: The only date that has been absolutely suggested to the ACC (by APS) is July 1. So, although it MIGHT get pushed back a couple weeks, the best way to be absolutely sure you get grandfathered in (for the next 20 years, by the way!) is to sign up by the end of this week!
