Constructed in 1946, the Historic Ice House played a crucial role in the economic development of Flagstaff, AZ. Originally built for the manufacturing of ice, the building has since hosted a grocery store and currently serves as an office building.
Rooftop Solar worked with the property management to install a 73.92 kW solar array on the roof of this iconic building. Even with the building’s historic status, Rooftop Solar was able to provide a seamless “turn-key” installation for the owners including structural inspection and engineering. Because of the Ice House’s flat roof, our team recommended a “ballasted ” system. This means that each panel was placed on a rack that tilts the panel for maximum sun exposure. An added benefit of this method is that there were very few penetrations made to the roof.
The 73.9 kW photovoltaic array has already paid for itself in electric savings, and the system will provide the Ice House with renewable power for 30 years and beyond. The Historic Ice House’s property management company will benefit from electricity savings while also helping our environment for decades to come!
