In Spring 2018, Rooftop Solar collaborated with Comfort Inn to develop a solar (photovoltaic) parking canopy tailored to the hotel’s unique energy needs and tax liability.
The goal was to create a system that would account for about 20% of Comfort Inn’s electricity needs for the next 30+ years, while also giving the owner access to tax benefits suited to their business. These benefits will account for about 60% of the system’s total cost and provide an avenue for the hotel to convert an ongoing liability into a cost saving asset. Energy savings and tax benefits considered, this project has a payback period of under 5 years.
This 29.68KW photovoltaic array is not only projected to save Comfort Inn hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of the project; it also creates a hedge against utility rate increases. In addition to providing covered parking to hotel guests, Comfort Inn has significantly reduced their carbon footprint in a marketplace increasingly concerned with corporate responsibility and sustainable practice.
