Scott’s home in Sedona, AZ already had a 12 kW solar array, and in April 2026 it gained a place to keep that energy. This Sedona home battery installation added two Enphase IQ Battery 10C units with 20 kWh of combined battery storage, so power is stored at home and ready when the household needs it.
Battery type: Enphase IQ Battery 10C, 2 units
Storage capacity: 20 kWh
What is the best part of living with solar?
Not paying an electric bill! Using that giant fireball in the sky to power our home by day, and our batteries by night!
What was your main motivation in wanting to go solar?
Add battery backup for much greater savings than APSs lowball net-metering rate. To provide backup for power outages. We have monsoons in the summer, and snowstorms in the winter. What could go wrong?
What was the most enjoyable part of the go-solar process?
Ease of the process with Rooftop.
Daytime Sun, Evening Storage and Storm Season
The batteries run in self-consumption mode, so solar energy the home does not use during the day is stored instead of going straight to the grid. After sunset, the house draws on that stored energy before turning to utility power. The batteries also provide backup power when the grid goes down, a real consideration in an area that sees summer monsoons and winter snowstorms.
Why APS Customers with Solar Add Storage
Scott’s motivation centered on how APS credits exported solar energy. When a solar home sends surplus power to the grid, it earns a bill credit at an export rate set by APS. Storing that surplus in a battery lets the household use more of its own solar energy at home instead of exporting it. For background on how those credits have changed, read our guide to the APS solar credit change.
